Music plays an important role in improving development and memory

Scientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look at the cortical thickening of 232 children between the ages of 6 and 18 to determine the impact of learning how to play a musical instrument and brain development. The study is the largest of its kind to date, and the results showed that children who played an instrument had greater attentional control, better working memory and organizational skills, and were less prone to anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, only about 75% of children regularly play an instrument.
